Paspawisa Jewpattanagul is a theatre artist based in Bangkok.
Her practice explores existential crises and examines how social structures
and capitalism shape our understanding of human value and
what it means to be alive.
Paspawisa approaches theatre as a space for experimentation,
continually testing the boundaries between performance, environment,
and audience experience.
Her works often begin with speculative questions:
What becomes possible when an entire play takes place in a swimming pool,
as in Kiska and Other Floating Creatures?
What happens when an audience is trapped inside a maze containing 200 doors,
as in Nowhereland the Eden at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre?
In OK Land, she create a convenience store, placing the audience within
a familiar commercial space and inviting them to reconsider
their role as both spectators and consumers.
Alongside her interest in unconventional performance spaces,
Paspawisa reimagines familiar narratives by shifting their point of view.
Presented at the Thailand Cultural Centre, Heart of Stone: The Musical
revisits a well-known story through the perspective of a traditional Thai villain,
challenging established ideas of heroism, morality, and whose experiences
are allowed to take centre stage.
Through immersive environments and unexpected forms of storytelling,
her work invites audiences to reconsider their position within
both the theatrical world and the social systems beyond it.
